Mobile NGN

The Alcatel-Lucent Mobile NGN solution, built on field-hardened 3GPP R4/R5/R6 purpose-built platforms, can be used for 2G network expansion, 3G deployment, as well as core network renovation. Key customer drivers include OPEX and CAPEX optimization, services innovation, and long-term investment protection with seamless migration from 2G to 3G to all IP IMS.

This solution is comprised of the Alcatel-Lucent 5060 Wireless Call Server (WCS) and 7549 Media Gateway (MGW).  The high capacity, small footprint WCS is based on open IT platforms, benefiting from industry advances and innovation at large.  It supports GSM, UMTS, and IMS MGCF, all on the same carrier grade, 5 9’s reliability platform.  The 7549 MGW is a flexible IP optimized media gateway with industry leading scalability and density.  It has a centralized media server for conference bridging, tones, announcements, DTMF and Legal Intercept, transcoder-free operations, and the capability to perform any-to-any switching, including native TDM to TDM, native packet to packet, and TDM to packet, making it well suited for multiple access networks, including GSM, UMTS, and IMS IM-MGW.

Additionally, the Alcatel-Lucent Mobile NGN solution offers simplified network integration and operations with one integrated Wireless Element Manager (WEM) for both the 5060 WCS and all its subtending 7549 MGWs, making trunk provisioning and maintenance easy.  Furthermore, the WEM is an integral part of the 5060 WCS, minimizing the overall number of network nodes.
