Letter from our Enterprise Business Group President, Hubert de Pesquidoux

Dear Customers,

Today's public, private and non-profit sector workforces are on the move. As a result, organizations have become more dependent on the always-on experience: delivery of voice, data and video content anywhere, anytime and context aware. This has introduced major challenges to CIOs. While IT and communications teams work more closely together to address issues -- like mobility, security and network availability — the traffic running across networks grows more and more critical to the health and longevity of the business.

Nowhere is this more evident than in industries like healthcare and finance, where millions of dollars in costs or losses can result from delayed — or missed — communications. In sectors like public safety and emergency response, timeliness, security and availability of networks can make the difference between life and death.

In this issue of Enriching Communications, we explore the technologies and trends that are driving this shift to “Business Critical Communications” and share examples of how enterprise,

government and carrier customers alike are addressing this new paradigm in communications.

I believe nothing tells the story better than real world success. I invite you to read more about how customers like Telbios in Italy are leveraging Alcatel-Lucent solutions to enrich patients’ lives and well-being through home medical care, and how Dutch telecom leader KPN has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent to deliver cost savings and enhanced services to small and medium businesses through managed services. We’ll discuss how Alcatel-Lucent’s own CIO, Elizabeth Hackenson, is spearheading a company-wide collaboration initiative by leveraging our industry-leading MyTeamwork solution.

Key forces are driving the transformation of enterprise networks today. In an increasingly global economy with stringent compliance and security requirements, businesses of all sizes face issues of manageability, availability, mobility and the best possible customer service. We hope this quarter’s issue provides insights into how enterprises, governments and service providers can work together to build the global communications networks of the future while remaining profitable and relevant within their industries.

Sincerely,

Hubert de Pesquidoux
President, Enterprise Business Group, Alcatel-Lucent
