Part of this cost savings comes from drastically reduced power consumption levels. Alcatel-Lucent Outdoor BTS cooling and protection efficiency allows the elimination of heavy shelters and air conditioning. By removing air conditioning, a heavy power consumer, power consumption is immediately -- and dramatically -- reduced.

The Alcatel-Lucent Outdoor BTS portfolio is based on an all-in-one outdoor concept:

The Alcatel-Lucent Outdoor BTS portfolio is based on three standard modules:
- Twin TRX, available in all frequency bands, GPRS and EDGE capable
- Antenna Network Combiner (ANC), ensures the combiner and duplexer functions
- Station Unit Module (SUM), ensures the control functions of the BTS
